During the first meeting we will try to see together how the concept of the singular is (re)introduced in philosophy via some specific shocks that politics, sciences and mathematics have produced on philosophy. To this aim we will discuss the problem of the singularity of the historical stories that Michel Foucault finds in the archives, and Gilles Deleuze's attempts to distinguish between the individual and the singular through certain suggestions taken from the natural sciences and from mathematics. Our guest, Tzuchien Tho, from Paris X University, will give a short easy lecture on the importance of mathematics in Leibniz and Deleuze.
