On the universality which is not in large numbers, or the link between the singular and the universal
In this session of the VL seminar we will touch upon the theme of universality on the points of encounter of philosophy and the theme of justice in collective political action, and via the problem of human intellectual emancipation.
In the texts of Badiou and Ranciere that we have chosen the philosophical problem of universality is disconnected from the classical problem of counting and encompassing all. Universality, on the contrary, appears as a procedure of dismantling the actual forms in which the multiple elements of a given situation are organized and counted. It exists in singular actions which struggle against the real effects of inequality and exclusion produced by these very operations of structuring and counting.
